Page Four3, July 1999 Saturday Daniel glanced up, wondering where that had come from, in time to see Sam and Nora share a smile.
Another in-joke.
Bad
enough they had hit it off and so constantly were smiling or something about female jokes, but they were both military so he didn't even try to fathom what they were always talking about.
He
knew there weren't many women on base, so bonding was almost required, but it still made him uncomfortable when they seemed to actually work at being mysterious.
He decided to chip in, anyway, just because he had nothing else to do.
"As a matter of fact, I just realized absolutely nothing. You?" Sam grinned at Nora's expression and rescued
Daniel from what promised to be a rather terse reply from the older Air Force Captain. "Well, we're gonna stop by the
General's office and update him on our way to the Commissary. Wanna join us?"
"No, I think I'll just head straight there." "Okay." Sam followed Nora out and then reappeared in the doorway. "I meant to tell
you earlier. I talked Gill into making that chicken casserole again. She let me know it's in one of the refrigerators in the Commissary. Just grab some and try it, okay?" Daniel realized his lack of enthusiasm hadn't been missed when Sam's look turned motherly.
Immediately he nodded, letting her have her way.
He'd
managed not to eat any of it at the retirement party and Sam had found out.
It had those…colored bits in it that just put him off.
Neon green was not a color he appreciated in Earthen food.
Daniel grabbed a blank notebook and pen, contemplating setting the casserole on fire.
He'd pretend to be shocked and blame it on the saboteur.
A smile danced in his eyes as he walked down the corridor.****** 11:47 AM
Teal'c sat very still, wishing Nurse Morhs would disappear.
Three times she had taken his blood and his
symbiote was becoming increasingly agitated.
Dr. Corvores' appearance in the room was almost welcome.
"Thank you,
Nurse. Teal'c, you can go ahead and change clothes while Dr. Fraiser and I complete these tests. You'll be notified of the results." Nurse Morhs finished taping the cotton swatch over the slightly bleeding entry point, tapping his arm when she was done. "All finished." "Thank you." As soon as she was away from him, he rose and headed to the lab to oversee Dr. Fraiser and Dr. Corvores.
He wanted to hear them speak and determine
for himself whether they truly had a way to give him a stable immune system in spite of his symbiote's natural drive to suppress and destroy it.
Anything that would help him to never again
experience the helplessness of being ill with no way to stop himself from becoming a monster.
A shell with no purpose than to feed the progeny of a large insect who was not even sentient
enough to care who it had had its victory over.
He offered a small prayer to any real gods who might be listening.
His hope and belief was dwindling and the thought of his son seeing him or
hearing of him in the state that creature had brought him to was enough to sour his tongue.
As Teal'c entered the lab, he could hear the two doctors working and talking. "Please." His rasped whisper disappeared among the sounds of whirring
and fingernails tapping on counters, but he hoped someone had heard as he silently took his place against the wall to watch and wait.****** ...continue to page five...
