Chapter Two: Sneaks and Creeps Page Five3, July 1999 Saturday 12:00 PM Janet pretended not to notice Teal'c entering the room as Dr. Corvores continued directing the two nurses assisting
them in getting all the tests going. Both women wanted preliminary results before SG-1 left the planet. Janet, for both professional and personal reasons, was trying hard to believe in Dr.
Corvores' theories. From previous interviews with Teal'c, after the way Jack had been turned into a Jaffa by Hathor, Janet had learned it was actually rare that the queen did the turning
herself. Teal'c, for instance, had been "gifted" with his first symbiote by a high priest with a similar device as the one the Colonel had described when his memories of the
experience with the Goa'uld Queen had eventually returned in full. Probably the best clue to helping Teal'c had been when Drey'auc had insisted on visiting the SGC again and let Janet run
tests on her. The CMO hadn't thought anything of it when Dr. Corvores had asked to see the charts until this theory about Teal'c's immune system had come up.
Now, she knew Amber Corvores might be on to something. Drey'auc, though female, was just as genetically enhanced as Teal'c and would've been a prime candidate to carry a symbiote had she not
been of noble blood and therefore exempt from the conscription decree. The problem with the proposed process so far was the danger that the symbiote would go insane, dying and killing Teal'c
when it's blood entered the warrior's main blood stream. "This is promising." Janet looked over to see Corvores looking at the latest results. She covertly glanced at Teal'c before checking the results, herself. If this
worked, they would be able to give Teal'c back an immune system that would work with his symbiote instead of rejecting it. Janet's doubts about whether they were truly able to manage it were
swept away in favor of a deliberate optimism and a basic desire to succeed.****** 12:15 PM Jack stuffed his hands in his pockets, walking almost at an angle as he rounded the doorway and
entered the dim Commissary. The "destroyer of lights" had only hit the main areas of the base so far, but everyone was very glad for emergency lighting and portable tap lights on
each table. His eyes took a moment to adjust and then he was easily able to spot Daniel sitting alone. He waved a bit to Gorowitz and most of his team at another table before grabbing a
chair, swinging it around, and straddling it. "Hey, Jack." "Daniel." Jack took a moment to appreciate the effect the table light
created now that his eyes were level to it. It was like sitting around a campfire, holding a flashlight and getting ready to tell ghost stories. The same freaky shadows and yellow-orange
light effect on moving faces. "Brought a book to read?" Daniel's sigh answered the question.
"Was going to. Didn't even think about the Commissary being…hit." "Aaa!" Daniel frogged out of his seat, sending the chair to the floor in his haste and Jack froze mid-jump, pointing to the plate of food.
"What are you eating? It's glowing!" "Oh please. That's why you jumped? I thought you spotted a Goold or something." ...continue to page six
