Chapter Two: Sneaks and Creeps Page Seven3, July 1999 Saturday Plate of food - to stare at until it gave up and evaporated so everyone would think he ate it, fork - to stab the evil green
bits, knife - to fight valiantly when the evil green bits show hand-to-hand Combat level 3 training, and a napkin in which to hide the evidence. Perfect. A wolf whistle rang out, and Jack's
head snapped up to see whether someone was about to have his boot in their mouth for insubordinate ragging of a superior officer. Instead, he noticed Lt. Tony Edican - owner of the whistle,
staring at Captains Carter and Frome as they jointly entered the room, still talking about something. That conversation broke off abruptly and for a moment, Jack thought Frome would flatten
Edican. Just for a moment, though. "Frome! We're here." Maj. Gorowitz's voice obviously stopped her from making a huge mistake and Jack glanced over, aware that SG-13 was getting some severe ribbing over their
record-breaking mission with SG-5 a couple weeks back. They actually managed to set in motion a five-planet war, set a leader and his wife on fire twice, were blamed by the entire planet for
an earthquake that leveled most of the capital city and barely made it back to the SGC with everyone alive. Impressive was just one word he'd heard to describe it and there were plenty that
weren't as nice and many that were much more sarcastic. For once, it wasn't SG-1 getting all the jibes and while Gorowitz and Mason seemed to take it in stride, Harris and Frome were pretty
publicly getting sick of it. SG-5 had admitted, as a team, that SG-13 had saved their six more than once and that it was just bad luck, but what a streak to have.****** "Just ignore him." Nora bit her tongue, not wanting to lash out at Sam
for something she had no part in. Instead, she gave a little wave as the other woman headed to her team's table. Nora kept her gait light and steady, refusing to give into the impulse to
smash Tony's smirk through the back of his face. "Might wanna stop scowling, Frome. Everyone's watching."
The Captain carefully took her seat next to Mason and tried to school her expression. It obviously didn't work because Gorowitz
sighed and looked straight at the Lieutenant in question until the younger man lowered his eyes. Nora smiled a bit at that and Gorowitz sent her a warning look, too, before letting his
expression soften a bit. "What'd you and Capt. Carter find out?" "We couldn't get the objects to do anything except for this wand that had a weird line on it. The wand reacted to ultraviolet light, but that's it.
We're still no closer to figuring out the purpose of any of this stuff. We're hoping the planet'll have some answers."
"Okay. Enjoy your time in the lab?" Nora gave him a saucy grin, not bothering to hide her happiness on that count.
"Yes, sir. I'll be sorry when we're not assigned with SG-1 after this mission. Having Dr. Samantha Carter as my lab
partner makes it pretty impossible for all the doctors and higher ranking lab techs to say anything derogatory to me or make it clear I'm only in there because they haven't kicked me out,
yet." "Frome…" Nora glanced over at
Mason, aware she needed to stop talking about her desire to be doing more research when on base. The good doctor would always try to find ways to get her to talk about her feelings of
inferiority to the other scientists and since Nora didn't feel inferior, just oppressed and persecuted, it was a waste of time. "Anyway, it was fun. Carter's good, so I learned a lot. She actually let me work the equipment, but didn't get all holier-than-thou about it
so…" "Well, it's about time you got some decent time in. Not the fifteen minute crap when no one else might be
using the labs." Nora smiled at Harris, relaxing now that she was in her element. Her team.
