Chapter Two: Sneaks and Creeps Page Eight3, July 1999 Saturday "I didn't know the Commissary had gone the way of
the briefing room. No one saw anything? Nothing on cameras?"
"Not a thing. Whoever it is, they need serious psychiatric help."
"I don't understand why they're not getting caught." "Well, they're sticking to low-guard, but high-traffic
areas right now. I don't know how they got to the briefing room, though. It's got multiple entrances, but all of those entrances are monitored carefully. They're good." Nora looked up at that, her brow rising.
"Sir, you sound like you almost respect this jerk." Gorowitz gave a half-grin before digging into his food again.
For the first time, Nora entertained the notion he might be the one, but then dismissed it. He was on the phone with her when they estimated the briefing room was hit.
No way to fake the noises at his house. Five kids, a wife, at least a hundred pets…from fish and birds to dogs and cats, the noises were just unmistakable. So he was off the hook, but
whoever was doing this was incredible to be able to do it all.****** Sam slid into her seat beside Daniel, ignoring the squeak the chair's legs made as it skidded a bit underneath her
weight. She wished the Colonel hadn't forbidden her from bringing any work into the Commissary. It made it impossible to eat an actual meal without taking a full break from her current
project. Of course, she then wished that someone could fix the Commissary lighting so she could mentally complain about the Colonel with more effect - dim rooms made it difficult to go over
and make new notes anyhow. "Still raggin' SG-13 about their latest, uh…coup?" Sam sighed, mentally calculating how many times someone had said something directly to or near enough to her and Capt. Frome about it and the number she
came up with didn't impress her. "Yes, sir. In a way, it's worse for them because no other team has outdone us in
anything on a first contact mission. Especially one where so much went wrong to overshadow how much went right. They weren't prepared for the drawbacks." Sam noticed Daniel surreptitiously spoon the rest of his chicken ala goop onto Jack's plate and kept talking to keep the Colonel from looking. There
hadn't been much to get rid of, so at least Daniel had eaten some of it like she'd asked. As the Colonel turned back to his food, Sam fought back a grin when Daniel distracted him with a
question. "So. Where's Teal'c?" Sam
picked up Daniel's coffee cup, ignoring his instantly attentive gaze as she took a sip from it and just as casually set it back down. "Janet asked him to give some more blood. Apparently a new doctor's been cleared for access and has some ideas for boosting Teal'c's natural immune
system." "New doctor?" "Dr.
Corvores. Young, but she was specifically asked for by Dr. Warner and so she'll be working both in the infirmary and the labs with us." "Ah. The dark-haired one?" "Yep." "Saw her, but haven't actually met her, yet. Can't say I'm not thrilled to be able to say that." Sam grinned at her commanding officer before turning to accept the bowl of chocolate pudding Gill had kept cold for her."Enjoying your meal, sir?
I see you helped yourself to more when I wasn't looking. I'll get you the recipe if you like it so much." Sam choked and glanced at Daniel, inwardly shocked to see a completely innocent
expression on his face. He seemed only mildly surprised at most. Must have been practicing with Teal'c again. Her eyes flicked back to the Colonel's face, only to find herself forced to
meet a cool, assessing stare. "Thought I needed a bit more to eat, Captain?" "No, sir." ...continue to page nine...
